FAQ / WAP Terms

What does WAP stand for?

Wireless Application Protocol, the browser standard developed by Phone.com and supported by the majority of the mobile industry.

What is WAP?

WAP allows users to view WAP compatible web pages on wireless devices such as cell phones.

Can I view all web sites?

WAP uses different programming than most of the web (WML vs. HTML). Viewing typical web sites through a wireless device may result in errors unless your device has the ability to view web pages designed for computers. This is called "HTML Compatible".

What happens if I get a call while in a WAP session?

Most phones will ask you (on-screen) if you would like to answer the call. If you select yes you will be prompted whether you would like to return to your WAP session once the phone call is terminated. Typically, if you select "no" the phone will take the caller to voicemail, or alert you that you had received a call.

Bandwidth:

Measures the data-carrying capacity of a communications channel. Usually measured in bits per second(bps).

Bluetooth:

Wireless technology which enables communication between small, mobile devices such as laptops, phones, digital cameras, PDAs...

Audio Formats and Multimedia:

Phones have various audio abilities. Just because your phone maker claims that your phone can play a file type does not necessarily allow you to download any compatible format. Your phone may have other limitations such as storage memory. Consult your Simmetry representative if you need assistance in deciding which phone is best for you.
